Our Story
We opened our doors in 1981 in Neal’s Yard, a once-forgotten corner of London. Our passionate belief that beauty should be natural, not synthetic, has guided us for over 40 years. Since the beginning, we've believed in nature, honesty, and your right to know what goes into the products you use.
Back then, natural health and beauty was a radical idea. But we pushed forward, becoming a voice for organic, sustainable self-care and wellness in a world dominated by chemicals and synthetics.
Today, people everywhere are seeking natural remedies and skin and body care. We're proud to lead that movement—sharing our love of nature through products that nourish body, mind, and planet.
Our Journey
1981
Romy Fraser opens the first Neal's Yard Apothecary store.
1983
Launch of the Frankincense Nourishing Cream (formerly Frankincense & Myrrh Skin Cream).
1988
Stock the UK's first certified organic essential oils.
1991
First health and beauty company certified by the Soil Association.
2014
The Shelley family brings NYR to Canada, opening the flagship store on Calgary's 4th Street.
2017
We opened our Beltline Boutique in downtown Calgary.
2018
Now available in over 15 Canadian retailers—and growing!
